In Hasbro’s new 3-3/4″ scale Marvel Universe action figure collection, there are two Iron Man figures in normal red & gold armor. One features his “classic” armor, which looks more like a red & gold leotard, and one features his more modern robot-like armor. This product is the more modern version.
I find this Iron Man figure to be much cooler than the “classic” version. The latter felt very delicate and dainty and looked more like a circus performer. I know this was based on Iron Man’s “look” back in the day, but the toy just didn’t seem like he could kick some butt. This Iron Man looks closer to the one in the recent movie. His armor looks very hi-tech and he looks ready for action. He seems sturdier, too.
Iron Man comes with articulation in his ankles, knees, hips, torso, wrists, elbows, shoulders, and head. You can pose him in a lot of cool ways.
What I love about the Marvel Universe figures (and Mattel’s DC Universe: Infinite Heroes figures) is that the designs come from the classic comic books and that characters from throughout the comics are being released together in a standardized 3-3/4″ collection. All your favorite heroes under one roof. Same size, same quality. And now the smaller Marvel figures can fit right in with the new DC figures and the Star Wars figures.
I also love the simplistic design. Nothing too fancy. No spring-loaded kicking action. No “arctic laser strike” costumes. It’s all back to the basics. The Marvel toys feature a good amount of posability (especially for such small figures), but the DC figures seem more durable. You can pick and choose between your favorite heroes and assemble your own superhero team.
